I am not disappointed in you...

Christine Cahoon   Fri 10 Mar 2023   updated: Fri 11 Aug 2023

I am not disappointed in you
I never have been, and I never will be
I'm not embarrassed or confused
Thinking you'd better improve yourself
Or else... I'm done with you.

No I'm not disappointed in you
I'm not ashamed of you
Thinking what a let down
I'm not frustrated or accusing
Bitter or abusive
l am love, and I love you.

And I'm not bored with you
I'm celebrating you
I have set you on a Rock
A chip off the old block
At home in this, beautiful place.
Never doubting you
I've no need to shout at you
Hey I think you're amazing
Though sometimes a little crazy
How I love to dance with you.

I'm not bored with you
I'm celebrating you
I have set you on a Rock, a chip off the old block
At home in this, beautiful place.
Never doubting you
I've no need to shout at you
Hey I think you're amazing
You're sometimes a little crazy, How love to laugh with you.
I am not disillusioned with you
I never had any illusions in the first place
I know exactly who you are
I've known you from the start
Yes I am love, and I love you.

God has a face and he looks like Jesus... and always has. Loves us all, warts and all :-)

Bike ride, April 2001

Christine Cahoon   Sun 05 Feb 2023

Start of the journey and things are easy
Passing through meadows and glens hazy
Hands gripped round bars, feet pushing hard
Knees like pistons, really powered
Wind through your hair and doing great
But when you fall off, it could make you late
Life can be great but sometimes rough
Although right now I’m doing enough.

John O’Donohue…

Christine Cahoon   Wed 04 Jan 2023

Poet John O’Donohue tells me, ‘The heart of human identity is the capacity and desire for birthing. To be human is to become creative and bring forth the beautiful.’

Divine Beauty: The Invisible Embrace (New York: HarperCollins, 2004), p. 142.

‘All that is eternal in me

Welcomes the wonder of this day,

The field of brightness it creates

Offering time for each thing

To arise and illuminate…

May my mind come alive today

To the invisible geography

That invites me to new frontiers,

To break the dead shell of yesterdays,

To risk being disturbed and changed.

May I have the courage today

To live the life that I would love,

To postpone my dream no longer,

But do at last what I came here for

And waste my heart on fear no more.

‘A Morning Offering’, Benedictus (Transworld Digital, Kindle Edition, 2009), Kindle Locations 344-363.

Something apt...

Why won't you talk to me
I've done nothing wrong that I can see.
You know I can't take this silence, tell me what's wrong with you
If I'm supposed to feel guilty, tell me what did I do

It must be a reason for you acting this way
But I swear I won't know it 'til you come out and say.
Why won't you talk to me
I've done nothing wrong that I can see.

I don't know why I'm trying to break down this wall
That you build up between us or nothing at all
It feels like a bad dream, it feels like a game
But I swear this is one time that I'm not to blame.

Why won't you talk to me
I've done nothing wrong that I can see.

The Weaver

Christine Cahoon   Mon 27 Sep 2021   updated: Thu 30 Sep 2021

Bookmark found in amongst the weaving stuff

My life is but a weaving
Between my Lord and me.
I cannot choose the colors
He worked steadily.

Oftimes he weaveth sorrow
And I in foolish pride
Forget He sees the upper
And I, the underside.

Not until the loom is silent
And the shuttles cease to fly
Shall God unroll the canvas
And explain the reason why.

The dark threads are as needful
In the Weaver’s skillful hand
As the threads of gold and silver
In the pattern He has planned.

Silence

Christine Cahoon   Fri 13 Nov 2020

It’s amazing here... not many places that everything is so still

I hear a leaf fall from a tree as autumn closes in
I hear the sound of sheep pulling and munching on grass
I hear the sound of a bird looking for worms on the forest floor
I hear the sound of the wind going through heron’s wings
I hear a bee humming as flies pass
I hear a goose honking overhead
In the distance, I hear the sound of the waves crashing on the shore.

Don’t quit

Christine Cahoon   Thu 08 Mar 2018

When things go wrong as they sometimes will,
When the road you're trudging seems all up hill,
When the funds are low and the debts are high
And you want to smile, but you have to sigh,
When care is pressing you down a bit,
Rest if you must, but don't you quit.

Life is strange with its twists and turns
As every one of us sometimes learns
And many a failure comes about
When he might have won had he stuck it out;
Don't give up though the pace seems slow—
You may succeed with another blow.

Success is failure turned inside out—
The silver tint of the clouds of doubt,
And you never can tell just how close you are,
It may be near when it seems so far;
So stick to the fight when you're hardest hit—
It's when things seem worst that you must not quit.

Draw a line in the sand!

Christine Cahoon   Mon 18 Dec 2017   updated: Wed 20 Dec 2017

He has everything yet he has nothing,
You give him an inch and he takes a mile,
It's always someone else's fault,
He's never happy,
In everything there's a problem,
He doesn't respect people's time and work,
He accuses rather than trying to bless,
His time is more precious than yours,
He calls "wolf" too often,
Too many false alarms.

Maybe there's one in every family,
There's definitely one in mine,
I've had enough,
It's time to regain my sanity,
Time to draw a line in the sand.

Of course, I never really drew that line in the sand. I could I. It's not in my nature.

A blessing for one who is exhausted...

Christine Cahoon   Wed 17 May 2017   updated: Tue 14 Nov 2017

Having heard about the death of a good friend and feeling worn out by life's struggles, I heard this poem for the first time and seemed appropriate... A Blessing for One Who is Exhausted by John O'Donohue.

The end seems especially helpful to...

Stay clear of those vexed in spirit.
Learn to linger around someone of ease
Who feels they have all the time in the world.

Gradually, you will return to yourself,
Having learned a new respect for your heart
And the joy that dwells far within slow time.

My good friend always seemed to have time, along with his wife, they helped so many.

For the perfection in me, reminders...

Ignore the questions, just do it.

Ignore nagging self-doubt, just get to work.

Think like a child, keep it simple.

Stop over thinking, let it go.

Just get something down... anything.

Set fake deadlines... get through that list regardless.

Learn to say it's good enough.

And if you manage to do all that, tell me how you did it!
